Nandina
Nandina domestica

Also known as Heavenly Bamboo, Nandina is without a doubt one of
the most popular landscape plants. Nandina provides gardeners with
attractive foliage, flowers and fruit to boot! Depending on variety
and cultivar, the foliage changes color as it grows throughout the
year. With dwarf & standard varieties available they can reach heights
from 2' to 10', with spreads of about 2'-6'. There are over 20
cultivars of nandina available.

When To Plant: Plant nandina in the spring or early fall.
Where To Plant: Nandina can be used as a border plant, a
hedge or a foundation plant. They tolerate rocky sites, heavy clay,
sand and most soil conditions as long as they do not stand in water.
Plant them in sun to partial shade. Most do best in afternoon shade.
How To Plant: Plant your nandina in holes about the same
depth but twice as wide as the rootball. Water them in deeply to
thoroughly soak the roots. Continue watering especially during dry
spells.
Care & Maintenance: Don't over-fertilize. This will cause
little berry set in the fall. Pruning in the spring will help your
plant become more bushy, and discourage it from getting tall and
leggy. Pest problems are rare for the nandina; with the exception of
those planted in dense shade.
Other Information: With more than 20 cultivars available
you're sure to find one just right for your landscaping needs.
