Maranta

There are four different groups of this particular plant.
Marantha, Calathea, Clenanthe and Stromanthe.
The outstanding feature of this plant is its spectacular foliage. Most
don't get over about 8" tall and are relatively easy to grow.
Temperature: Sudden fluctuations can harm delicate
varieties. Maintain minimum winter temperatures of about 500
to 600 F.
Light: No direct light. The colors will
fade in bright light. No direct sunlight. In winter move to a well-lit
spot.
Water: Keep compost moist at all times.
Reduce watering a little in winter; however, don't let soil dry out.
Humidity: Mist leaves regularly. Surround
pot with damp peat.
Repotting: Usually about every 2 years.
Use a reliable professional potting mix.
Special Problems:
Leaf tips brown & dry: Air too dry.
Possible spider mite infestation.

Leaves curled & spotted: Possibly
underwatering. Keep compost moist at all times.
Don't allow to dry even slightly between waterings;
especially when plant is actively growing.
Leaf fall: Air too dry. The plant is
particularly sensitive to low air humidity and should be misted or
surrounded with damp peat.
Limp, rotting stems: Air too cool or
compost kept too wet; especially in the winter.
