Sweet Potato Vine

|
The Sweet Potato Vine Blackie, a
Proven Winners selection, has a trailing habit and dark
red/purple leaves that are shaped like a bird's footprint.
This ornamental plant provides color and interest like no
other plant. They are grown for their distinctive foliage
and vigorous growth habit. Blackie looks nice planted with
lighter foliaged plants. Ornamental Sweet Potato Vines can
be used as an annual groundcover or in hanging baskets and
pots. They grow best when provided with a high light
location and relatively warm temperatures. |
The Sweet Potato Vine Margarita, a Proven
Winners selection, has a trailing habit and traditional velvety, fan
shaped leaves that are a bright chartreuse color. This ornamental
plant provides color and interest like no other plant. They are
grown for their distinctive foliage and vigorous growth habit.
Margarita looks nice planted with darker foliaged plants. Ornamental
Sweet Potato Vines can be used as an annual groundcover or in
hanging baskets and pots. They grow best when provided with a high

When To Plant: After the
temperatures begin to warm and the after the last
average frost date (April 15 in Tulsa). |
Where To Plant: This spreader
can reach 36-48", so make sure you plant it where it has room to
'spread out.' It will get about 6-8" tall.
How To Plant: Plant in full sun
where you have good drainage. It is adaptable to some drought and
also poor soils, but does best in rich, well drained areas. Sweet
potato vine is a fast grower, so I would space them at least a foot
or so apart. Of course, since it is an annual, if you want a fuller
look plant them closer together.
Care and Maintenance: Keep
plants well watered when we start reaching the 'dog days.' Plants
can sometimes get leggy, if so just pinch them off and they will
start bushing out for you.
