The croton is a popular house plant and its attraction is obvious with its vivid foliage colors and varied leaf shapes. Crotons need fairly constant temperature which will not drop below 60⁰ F, and they also need high humidity.

Temperature: Warm...minimum of 60⁰ F. in winter.

Light: Good light is necessary. East or west facing windowsill is ideal.

Water: Water liberally from spring to autumn. Water more sparingly in winter.

Air Humidity: Air absolutely must be moist. Mist leaves regularly, daily if possible. Wash leaves frequently.

Repotting: If necessary every 2-3 years.

Special Problems

Loss of Lower Leaves: If brown tips are present, air or compost is too dry. If brown edges are present, temperature is too low.

Loss of Leaf Color: Not enough light

Insects: Red spider mites & scale can be a problem. Inspect plant often and closely.
